Abstract
|
|
|
Omphalocele is a rare congenital malformation which is a herniation of abdominal viscera into
the base of the umbilical cord.
Omphalocele necessitates emergent surgical correction, because the sac wall of it is apt to rupture
and poorly resistant to bacterial invasion.
We experienced two cases of omphalocele. One is prenatally sac-ruptured and the other intact type.
All cases were operated by one stage method. One survived but the other died.
The probable cause of death was postoperative sepsis and respiratory failure due to increased
intraabdominal pressure.
